“Shake and Rake” – how we harvest our pecans.

Our harvesting involves several steps to make sure our pecans are collected efficiently while maintaining their quality to give you the freshest, tastiest nut.

When are pecans are ripe and ready, the trees are shaken with equipment to loosen the nuts from their branches.

These shakers grasp the tree trunk and shake it vigorously, causing the ripe pecans to fall to the ground. After shaking, the fallen pecans are collected into long rows on the ground using sweepers and rakes.

This process is known as windrowing and helps gather the nuts into a concentrated area for easier collection. Once the pecans are picked up, they are cleaned to remove debris, leaves, and twigs.

Pecans usually contain some moisture when harvested. To prevent mold and spoilage during storage, we dry our pecans to a safe moisture content. This is done using drying equipment that circulates warm air through the pecans.
